Vodafone allows you to pay for metro trips through a simple SMS

Less than a week after Orange introduced the possibility to pay by SMS a journey with the metro Vodafone makes exactly the same move by announcing today the introduction of an identical service. The number at which one/two or ten metro trips can be paid is 1700, the same as in the case of Orange. The devices that validate the payment made via SMS are available in the same stations as in the case of Orange, and you can find more details in the press release below.

From today,

  • Vodafone users can pay for subway trips via SMS
  • Customers can choose to pay, by SMS, for one, two or ten metro trips
  • After paying for the trip via SMS, users have access to the metro stations by calling 1700 for free and bringing the phone close to the validation device
  • Access via SMS payment is possible, in the first instance, in seven metro stations in Bucharest

Bucharest, January 30, 2012 – Starting today, Vodafone users can pay by SMS for access to seven Bucharest metro stations. The first stations that allow this type of access are: Piata Victoriei, Universitate, Gara de Nord, Timpuri Noi, Politehnica, Grozavesti and Petrache Poenaru.

Thus, with an SMS to the number 7477, at a rate of 0,5 Euro (without VAT), users pay for a metro trip. For two journeys, the payment is made through a text message to the number 7492, charged for 0,9 Euro (without VAT), and for ten journeys, the payment is made through an SMS to the number 7490, charged for 2,2 Euro (without VAT).

Once they have paid for the trip via SMS, in order to gain access to the metro station, users only need to call the free number 1700 and, during the call, bring the phone close to the dedicated validation device, located at the entrance of the metro station.

The metro access SMS payment service was developed with the support of Metrorex.
