Because they bought the new iPad 3 tablet from Apple, those from Macworld and an Australian website thought to compare it with 2 other top Android tablets and with the iPad 2 tablet available in stores for more than a year. In their tests, the iPad tablet was surpassed by the Android tablets only in terms of internet browsing, but I think this was normal considering that the native browser of the Android OS is very fast in terms of loading web pages. The rest of the tests regarding the quality of the screen, the performance of the graphic chip and the benchmark for Sunspider were won by the iPad 3, but in the test regarding the quality of pictures taken using the included camera, the Apple tablet had the same score as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet.

The quality of the new iPad's camera sensor has improved dramatically, to the point where images are actually (gasp!) usable. In our blind camera tests for stills and video, the new iPad tied the Asus Transformer Prime for top honors. Those results are especially impressive when you consider that the Prime has an 8-megapixel sensor, whereas the new iPad's carries a 5-megapixel sensor.

Those from Macworld say that the new iPad tablet is the best tablet currently available on the market, and maybe from some points of view they are right, but such a categorization cannot be made because each user has his own set of requirements regarding a gadget. The iPad 3 tablet is definitely a gadget worthy of consideration and has many strengths but also some weaknesses compared to competing tablets.

Apple wasn't kidding at all when it said that its new graphics processor is much better than those included in other Android tablets available on the market, and you notice that the iPad 3 tablet absolutely wins all the tests done using GL Benchmark. Among the tablets that were put face to face with the iPad 3 is a tablet that has the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip and the last two graphics represent as clearly as possible the fact that Apple was not lying when it said that in its new tablet there is a graphic chip up to 4 times faster than the one in Nvidia Tegra 3.

Unfortunately, Safari is still a weak point of iDevices and although the tablet performs well in synthetic tests, the tests done in the real world prove exactly the opposite. I've said in the past that the Safari browser needs to be improved to keep up with the native Android OS browser, but Apple doesn't seem to be able to improve its performance long enough. Having said that, the iPad 3 tablet is more powerful than the iPad 2 and than other Android tablets, but the exception to the rule is surfing the Internet, an extremely important thing.
