iPad 3 – almost as big a success as the iPhone 4S

The New iPad

Last night the company Apple announced that 3 million iPad tablets were sold in the weekend of the launch, the figure being the highest ever recorded for the launch of a tablet. Making a comparison with the iPad 1 tablet, I will tell you that 1 million copies of that product were sold in barely 28 days after its launch and the figure of 3 million units sold was reached 80 days after its official launch. Although the success of iPad 3 seems enormous, it must be taken into account that iPad 1 was initially launched only in the USA and only two months later was launched in several countries in Europe and on other continents.

Compared to the iPad 1, it was normal to see a difference very high in sales, but how is the situation if we make a comparison with the iPhone 4S? Well, Apple sold 4 million iPhone 4S terminals during the launch weekend, but the device was available in 7 countries around the world and not in 10, as was the case with the iPad 3 tablet. The iPhone 4S was launched in several other countries weeks later and in Romania it reached barely a month after the official launch. The iPad 3 tablet will be launched in another 25 countries on Friday and we will reach 35 countries that have the tablet available for purchase.

Basically, Apple had record sales because it managed to produce enough units to launch the device in many countries. If the current launch had taken place under the same conditions as the iPad 1, then things would have been completely different. For the iPad 2, Apple has not published official sales figures in the first weekend.
