Recycle a mobile phone or an accessory and help plant a tree

Today the Cosmote mobile phone operator announced that it will launch an interesting campaign that will give users the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the forest fund in Romania. From March 31st in the Cosmote and Germanos stores you will be able to donate old phones or accessories that will be recycled and in exchange for each phone or accessory donated a tree will be planted and cared for by the two companies until it reaches maturity. The idea is very good and I think it should be supported because there are very few projects of this kind in Romania and many of us ignore the nature that supports our lives.

The Cosmote campaign is started on the occasion of Earth Hour and will end in September.

COSMOTE Romania will mark Earth Hour 2012, on March 31, with the first important initiative that directly links mobile telephony with environmental protection. Thus, on March 31, COSMOTE launches a challenge for each of its customers: for every mobile phone or accessory brought in for recycling in a COSMOTE or Germanos store until September 2012, COSMOTE will plant a tree this autumn and take care of it until he reaches maturity.

"We invite all our customers to help us reconstruct and rejuvenate the environment by simply bringing an old, unused or damaged mobile phone. We chose Earth Hour as the starting point for this campaign to ensure that more and more mobile users will learn about this initiative and join us. Through this challenge launched with Earth Hour, COSMOTE Romania intends to increase the level of awareness and responsibility of the population towards environmental protection. And, of course, in all COSMOTE offices, the lights will be turned off in the areas that are not essential in the office buildings in Bucharest and in the country. In this way, each of us contributes to having a cleaner planet", said Ruxandra Vodă, Corporate Affairs Manager, COSMOTE Romania.

COSMOTE Romania thus combines two programs developed by the company: I Love Recycling and Adopt a Forest. The company's employees will plant all the trees collected during this campaign in the fall of 2012. Adopt a forest was launched in 2009 with a pilot project in Căciulaţi, with 5.000 trees planted, then continued in 2010 with the planting of 10.000 oak saplings on an area of 20.000 square meters east of Ploiesti. This project was implemented with the support of the MaiMultVerde Association and the Administration of Public and Private Domains from Ploiesti. COSMOTE Romania has made a commitment to take care of this forest for five years.
