The Wall Street Journal does not recommend buying new Macs in the near future

In an article available today in the online version of the famous publication Wall Street Journal we have a very interesting recommendation for those who are looking for a new Mac. Those from the Wall Street Journal say that people who intend to buy a new Mac should postpone the purchase at least until the summer of this year when OS X Mountain Lion is about to be released and it could bring some new models of the current Macs . The current version of the MacBook Air turns one year old this summer, the Mac Mini falls into the same category and the MacBook Pro will most likely be updated in the same period with processors from the Ivy Bridge series.

On the Mac side, Apple AAPL -0.64% is also bringing out a new operating system this summer. Called Mountain Lion, it won't be as big a change as Windows 8, partly because Apple has already integrated a lot of touch gestures and tablet-type features into the Mac using the touch pad, and has given no indication it plans touch screens . However, Apple is overdue for redesigned laptops, especially in its MacBook Pro line, and it is a good bet that new, possibly heavily redesigned, models will begin appearing later this year. Current Macs will likely be upgradable to Mountain Lion, but if you buy now, you'll miss out on the likely new hardware.

Although for now it is not known for sure when these new models of MacBooks and probably iMacs will come, it is quite clear that they will be launched this year. The interesting part is that the new Macs could come with Retina Displays, larger capacity batteries and maybe a new design, but you will have to wait for their release to see if Apple is preparing any major surprises. At WWDC 2012 we could see new models of the MacBook Air/Pro and it would be a shame to spend a few thousand dollars/euro now considering that in 2/3 months other, much better models could be available.
