Leopard Flashback Removal Security Update cleans OS X Leopard 10.5 of Flashback malware

During the last evening, Apple launched Leopard Flashback Removal Security Update, a special update for those who are still running OS X Leopard 10.5 and have problems with the Flashback malware. This update is intended to clean Macs infected with that malware and it was already available for those who have Mac OS X Lion or Mac OS X Snow Leopard. In addition to cleaning the operating system of the Flashback malware, the update also automatically disables the Java plugin of the Safari browser, but only if it is not updated.

This update removes the most common variants of the Flashback malware. If the Flashback malware is found, a dialog will notify you that the malware was removed. In some cases, the update may need to restart your computer in order to completely remove the Flashback malware.

In addition to this update, Apple also launched Leopard Security Update 2012-003 which can be installed on OS X Leopard 10.5.8 and which automatically disables the Flash browser in Safari, but only if it is not updated.

This update disables versions of Adobe Flash Player that do not include the latest security updates and provides the option to get the current version from Adobe's website.

Both updates can be installed on OS X Snow Leopard via the Software Update application.
