Nuance annually processes 2 billion voice commands spoken on mobile terminals

Nuance is probably the company that produced the most used software for processing voice commands given on mobile terminals. Nuance CMO stated recently that no less than 6 billion terminals around the world would use the company's software (not only the one for recognizing voice commands) and annually 2 billion commands are processed, excluding here those made through Siri. Nuance also produces software that offers suggestions for words written by users and this software together with the one for recognizing voice commands covers an extraordinary number of mobile terminals available around the world.

Mr Mahoney told the Telegraph that the two billion annual "voice transactions" did not include Siri, for which Nuance also provides technology, but declined to say how many devices were generating that volume of voice commands and speech recognition. Although 6 billion mobile devices use Nuance technology, this includes the predictive text keyboard, T9, as well as other programs such as the Swype keyboard that allows users to enter words without tapping each letter individually.

Although the number of mobile terminals that generated the 2 billion interactions with the software for recognizing voice commands was not specified, we are probably talking about several hundred million devices used globally. Recently Nuance released Dragon Dictation and Dragon Search that allow us to search in Romanian and to dictate text in Romanian, the company covering several dozen languages around the world through this software. I think that in the coming years the number of people using such programs will grow exponentially as more and more manufacturers will implement systems similar to Siri in their own smartphones.
