The iPhone 5 will have a 19-pin connector port according to Reuters

In an article published today, those from Reuters reconfirms what many of us already knew, the fact that iPhone 5 it will have a smaller, 19-pin connector port. The information comes from sources close to Apple, but it is not new and certainly does not surprise anyone. Practically, the connector port of the future iPhone will be almost 40% smaller than the current one, in the image above you have presented it and it would be good to get used to it because it will be implemented in all iDevices to be launched by Apple .

Apple Inc's new iPhone will drop the wide dock connector used in the company's gadgets for the best part of a decade in favor of a smaller one, a change likely to annoy the Apple faithful but which could be a boon for accessory makers. The iPhone 5, Apple's next generation iPhone expected to go on sale around October, will come with a 19-pin connector port at the bottom instead of the proprietary 30-pin port "to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom", two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

It is speculated that the new port is implemented because Apple would like to comply with a commitment made to the EU, a commitment according to which iDevices would have microUSB ports instead of the current 30-pin ones, but Reuters comes up with another theory. They claim that Apple reduced the size of that connector port to be able to implement the audio jack at the bottom of the iPhone and this is the first time we hear about the reason for this change. No matter what is the real motivation behind this change, it is certain that we will have to replace all the accessories that connect to the iPhone through the port or connector, and here we are talking about negligible investments.

  1. Let's say I'm away at a camp and I left the charger at home, like most people did, but they're lucky because they have microUSB and can charge their phones from each other, but I can't. I think it's stupid for Apple not to introduce a microUSB in the iPhone (if they still reduced it), most phones have microUSB.

  2. Well, I would talk about it even before the launch of the 4S, as the EU obliges the manufacturers, but both the 4S and the iPad 3 came with what it was...
