Prosecutors in New York and San Francisco praise the new Activation Lock of iOS 7

iOS 7 Activate Lock is a new system implemented by Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), for the service Find My iPhone, and through it allows an additional security of our iDevices. More precisely, when you block an iDevice using the new one Activation Lock, that terminal will only be able to be unlocked with a security code, and if it is entered incorrectly 3 times or if a restore is performed, the terminal will not be able to be activated again unless the Apple ID is logged in with which it was blocked.

After months of pressure from a global coalition of elected officials and law enforcement agencies, we are pleased that Apple is set to release a new mobile operating system that includes a theft deterrent feature called Activation Lock. This is an important first step towards ending the global epidemic of smartphone theft. In the months ahead, it is our hope that Activation Lock will prove to be an effective deterrent to theft, and that the widespread use of this new system will end the victimization of iPhone users, as thieves learn that the devices have no value on the secondary market. We are particularly pleased that – because Activation Lock is a feature associated with Apple's new operating system as opposed to a new device – it will be available to consumers with older phone models who download the free upgrade.

Practically, an iDevice locked with Activation Lock will only be able to be used by its rightful owner, again Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), could reject the change of terminals brought blocked in its stores, which it does not do now. The implementation of this system turns out to be so good, that the prosecutor's offices next to the courts in New York and San Francisco they published a joint press release praising the initiative of those from Apple and the efficiency of the system that will substantially reduce the number of thefts of iDevices.

Whether this will happen or not remains to be seen, but it is clear that the system is good.

  1. hello zaone... how does dak generate that security code, for example I block it and the one who took it doesn't know the code... but dak returns with it to me... how do I find out that code you mentioned here...???
For me, it would be the 2nd option with restore and reactivate with my apple ID, but I'm still not clear with this code that you mentioned..!!!

  2. Are you talking about the lost mode function? It's like it wasn't there before. If this is how activation lock is done through lost mode, it would be great!

  3. Well, if the person who finds it deactivates the location services, how can I still see it on the map? as I saw that they can be simply deactivated without any password.. until I manage to block him, he can't deactivate the location services?

  4. @c0sminc00l In vain it deactivates, the thief passes it on and the person who buys it will surely connect it to the wi-fi network, 3G if you didn't lose it very quickly and then the thief can't do anything with it..

  5. c0sminc00l, it doesn't matter if he turned off location services, you can block him from iCloud anyway. However feedback should be sent to Apple for the fact that while you can't turn off Find My iPhone without a passcode, you can still, as you said, turn off location services altogether even if Find My iPhone is on. I think I know who will email Apple. 😉

  6. HELP! I installed iOS7 everything was fine, after two hours I answer a message, tel asks me I don't know what code and now it's blocked... I receive calls and that's it... what to do???

  7. I see that everyone understood what he wanted from this story:
    I understood it like this:
if your phone is stolen, enter iCloud from a PC and give it lost mode. the phone will be blocked the first time it connects to the Internet (and it will connect to the Internet sooner or later). if the thief still gives him a restore, he can't activate it without your iCloud account and password, so he can throw it in the trash.
    I hope I understood correctly.
so it's practically useless to buy another iPhone.
