The Belgian government is trying to change the way Apple cooperates with mobile phone operators

You probably already know that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), refuse to activate the function 4G of the terminals iPhone for mobile phone operators that do not have the network certified by their engineers, those devices that do not have a toggle in the settings menu that allows the activation of connectivity 4G. In Belgium, the American company certified only one of the 3 mobile phone networks that have the infrastructure 4G active, and the Belgian government is not so happy with this tactic of the Americans, so they intend to stop it.

Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced during this week that the Belgian government intends to propose the promulgation of a law by which all mobile operators will be forced to unlock the 4G functionality on mobile terminals. In this situation, Apple would be obliged to offer all Belgians the opportunity to access the 4G networks of local operators, regardless of where they purchased their terminals, the tactic now applied by the company being unique in the country and probably in all of Europe.

In Romania, Apple applied a similar tactic in the case of iPhones until the certification of the 4G networks of Cosmote, Orange and Vodafone, but the good part is now that we can access any of these 3 networks without problems. In other countries, things are different and of course there are many other problems with the way Apple organizes and runs its businesses, but it is good that the government authorities have the courage to stand up to the Americans.
