Orange launches Passpoint technology, for the first time on the Romanian market

Bucharest, March 25, 2014. Starting today, customers can connect to Orange hot spots through Passpoint technology, introduced for the first time on the Romanian market. This is a new step by which Orange continues its digitization strategy, with which it offers easy access to the Internet for all its customers.

The Wi-Fi network provided by Orange Romania is one of the first networks in Europe compatible with Passpoint, where authentication is performed without a username and password, but only with the help of the customer's SIM card. The use of this technology enables the automatic connection and authentication of users, while ensuring the highest degree of information security in a Wi-Fi network possible at this time. Thus, customers using devices compatible with this technology (terminals with iOS7 or certain Samsung terminals with the Android operating system) will automatically and securely connect to any Orange hot spot, if they choose the Orange Mobile Wi-Fi SSID. Access is achieved without the need for prior configuration, the only condition that must be met is that the Wi-Fi interface is open. Users who do not own Passpoint compatible devices, but support the EAP-SIM/AKA protocol, will be able to log in if they manually select this type of authentication on the first attempt to connect to the network. After the first login, all connections will be made automatically.

Any user of mobile phone services, regardless of the network in which he is registered, can connect to Orange Wi-Fi hot spots for free for 2 hours, authentication is done through the portal, and the password is received via SMS. For Orange customers, access is unlimited through Passpoint technology.

The Wi-Fi network provided by Orange Romania is one of the first networks in the world fully integrated with the mobile network, it uses the latest standards in the field and offers clients access to the same services available in the mobile network. Also, Orange invests heavily in its network to offer the best mobile internet quality, coverage and speed in Romania.
