UPC Wi-Free – FREE Wi-Fi internet for UPC customers using their own Wi-Fi modems (Video)

UPC Wi-Free is a service launched by UPC Romania for its own customers, allowing access to FREE Wi-Fi internet when you are not at home, but you are near one of the more than 200.000 access points in Romania. The service is offered free of charge by the UPC company to all its fixed internet subscribers, so if you are one of the company's over 400.000 customers you can also benefit from free Wi-Fi internet when you are away from home.

UPC Wi-Free requires the user to log in using the username and password created for the My UPC account, after logging in free internet access is available for an unlimited period of time. The UPC Wi-Free service works with the Wi-Fi modems of customers in Romania, those from UPC automatically activating it on their devices with a separate internet band for the traffic made by visitors, the two networks being theoretically independent.

To be honest, UPC's idea is rather strange because I find it hard to believe that all customers would agree that the equipment used for the Internet should record traffic from nearby visitors. Even though UPC claims that the Wi-Free network is independent, it works in the same modem, consumes a limited number of resources, and this could cause problems with the Internet browsing performance of some.

UPC Wi-Free is active and accessible around blocks or houses where there is UPC Wi-Fi equipment.
