homescreen is an application recently launched in App Store by a company that is trying to reinvent water with a concept that has been around for years, but has been modified to attract the attention of even more people around the globe. More precisely, #Homescreen allows us let's record screenshots of the pages of the applications installed in our terminals, something that could be done until now and can still be done by simultaneously pressing the Home and Lock buttons. What brings homescreen different is a system for recognizing application icons and displaying information about them.
Homescreen presents the most used applications on the planet
In the image above you see a screenshot taken using #Homescreen and it does not differ a bit from a normal screenshot, but if you access the page dedicated to the service you will find out a completely different story. There, the company has dedicated pages with all user screenshots and, analyzing the application icons, displays their descriptions from the App Store in separate windows to help people discover new applications used by people they know or don't know.
Facebook is Messenger is on 14% of people's homescreen, Whatsapp is on 12 percent, Snapchat is on 11%, Path on 5 percent (while snapchat and path arent straight messaging app's, worth noting them here for comparison), Groupme 4.7%, HipChat on 2.6 percent, Line on 1.5 percent, Viber 1%, Kik is on 0.5 percent.
Analyzing the captures sent by Homescreen users, the creators of the service came to the conclusion that Facebook Messenger is installed on 14% of the main screens, WhatsApp Messenger on 12%, Snapchat on 11%, Path on 5% and this reveals the fact that most of those who use service are from USA. The idea behind #Homescreen is interesting, but its usefulness is mainly given by the users who use the service and if most of them are from the US and use useless applications in other areas of the globe, then the principle is broken from the start.
