Apple is preparing processors for Macs, Intel will produce some chips for iDevices

Apple will implement in next year's MacBook Airs its first processor specially created for these products, it being included in an A10X chip manufactured by the Samsung company.

Apple Mac chip development

After years of rumors regarding the launch of some Apple processors for Macs, now we have the first solid information about the American company's plans for the future. According to an analyst with valid past product information Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), unreleased, the American company is now preparing processors for Macs that will be implemented in the products that will be launched on the market during 2016.

A10X it would be the first Apple chip to contain its own processor for Macs, it would be produced using a 10nm manufacturing process through technology FinFET, Samsung going to be the only Apple partner that will produce them. This A10X chip would have performances between those of a processor Intel Atom and those of a processor Intel i3, so it will most likely be found only in MacBook Air.

Apart from these chips, the companies Intel and Global Foundry were contracted by Apple to produce the future chips of the iDevices, the first of which will start production this year. Global Foundry would take over 25% of the production of A9 processors for iPhone 6S, Samsung being chosen to manufacture the rest, both companies using a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process.

As far as Intel is concerned, Apple intends to buy Intel XMM 7360 baseband chips from it starting in 2016, these controlling the GSM functionality of iDevices. Both iPhone terminals and iPad tablets will contain these Intel processors together with the Qualcomm MDM 9634M, with Intel providing 30% of the total required by Apple.

Apple's transition from Intel processors to its own processors for Macs is not at all surprising, those from Cupertino wanting to control the entire terminal production process, as well as their components. In this idea, it would not be excluded that in the future Apple will also produce its own baseband chips for GSM functionality, or Wi-Fi chips, but everything will depend on how the company thinks about its strategy for the future.
