Apple Watch is once again awarded for design

Although the official launch of Apple Watch is three weeks away, here is that the American company's product is again awarded for the design conceived by the famous Jony Ive, this time Red Dot choosing to offer the Best of Best award for the future smartwatch. Just a few weeks ago, the International Forum Design awarded Apple Watch for design, calling it "iconic", but this time the Apple product shares the first position with the MB&F HM6 Space Pirate smartwatch, so we are not talking about a complete victory for Jony Ive and his team of designers.

Despite this, the award offered Apple Watch was considering not only the design of the product, but also the functionality, durability, ergonomics, but also the emotional state it generates, and these combined with other elements in the jury placed the Apple Watch in the top. A total of 4,928 were entered for this award and only 81 were awarded, in various categories, the award for design to be handed to an Apple representative on June 29 at a ceremony that will take place in Germany.

Red Dot design award jurors understandably fawned over what is still, by far, the best-looking smartwatch, even though it isn't on the market yet. Given the limitations of technology, as well as the potential of what can come of connected smartwatches, I think it makes a lot of sense that the Red Dot award jury decided to not only recognize the Apple Watch, but consider it as a "Best of the Best” product.

It's an interesting Best of the Best Red Dot watch design award this year, as, on the one hand, you have the $230,000 MB&F HM6 Space Pirate that is limited to just 50 pieces, and on the other hand, you have the mostly $1,000 and under Apple Watch that could easily have 50 million units on wrists before long.
