Google wants to map potholes in the asphalt

Google pothole mappingGoogle is developing a technology that would be ideal for Romania, the American company creating a technology that allows it to map potholes in the asphalt of the main roads on which cars travel.

The technology has been registered for patenting in the USA and is currently only intended for the American territory, but the idea can be easily extended to other areas of the world if Google will consider this necessary and useful for users.

According to the patent, the technology of Google it would take data from car sensors and the GPS integrated in them to realize when a user drives over a pothole, this being automatically marked in Google Maps so that other drivers can avoid it.

Moreover, Google Maps would automatically create alternative routes for those who want to have a quiet journey, so they will have the opportunity to avoid areas with potholes, even if it means taking a longer route to at the destination.

Considering that we are talking about a complex technology that needs a lot of testing time, it is unlikely that Google will start public tests in less than a year, but there are very high chances that the technology will be offered to the public at some point .

For Romania, a technology of this kind would be ideal because the roads or highways in our country are very far from being even acceptable, but it will take a long time until such a technology finally reaches us.
