Tens of thousands of Popcorn Time users will be sued

Popcorn Time processpopcorn Time is one of the largest websites that allows the viewing of pirated movies or TV series in any location on the globe, an impressive number of users using it every day to watch almost everything they want.

Because the service is so popular, some organizations that fight against piracy constantly monitor it, and one of them called the Rights Alliance managed to collect between 50.000 and 75.000 IPs of users who accessed the system in Norway in recent months.

Considering that in Norway it is estimated that approximately 15% of the population has viewed at least one pirated movie or accessed at least one pirated file in the last year, the local branch of the Rights Alliance is now trying to hold accountable those who use popcorn Time from the country.

According to local authorities, Rights Alliance has the legal right to collect the IP addresses of those who connect to popcorn Time, but in order to be able to identify the respective persons, they will have to initiate a process to force the internet service providers to find out which subscriber was associated with an IP at a given moment.

According to Rights Alliance chief Willy Johansen, his organization is now in possession of a database containing information on between 50,000 and 75,000 suspected Popcorn Time pirates. We are sitting today with a record of some users of [Popcorn Time] in Norway. These are records we can lawfully use, and it could be that someone gets a little surprise in the mail in the form of a letter. It's probable that something will happen in the fall.

Those from Right Alliance claim that some of the users who will be identified can expect to receive legal documents in the mail that could call them to a possible trial, or that could oblige them to pay a fine for accessing content pirated.

Practically Rights Alliance intends to obtain money from those who have viewed pirated content, the sums will eventually reach the content creators, but a possible process will take a long time, but if it is successful it will cause other subsidiaries to follow its path .
