Telecom operators buy new radio frequencies

Auction frequencies 3,4 - 3,8 GhzThe other days ANCOM announced the results of the most recent auctions for granting the rights to use some radio frequencies in Romania, 5 telecommunications service providers participating in it.

Orange Romania, RCS & RDS, Vodafone, 2K Telekom si SNR they participated in an auction in which licenses could be bought for the use of some radio frequencies in the bands 3410 – 3600 MHz and 3600 – 3800 MHz, 255 MHz being allocated, 65% more than until now.

As was probably expected, those from Orange bought the most licenses with a total value of 3.9 million dollars, 2K Telekom buying licenses worth 740.100 euros, while RDS & RDS, Vodafone and SNR will pay 1.880.000, 1.730.000 and 1.850.001 euros respectively.

The cumulative value of all licenses is 10.124.101 euros, the rights of use being offered from January 1, 2016 for a period of 10 years, enough time to create the national infrastructure based on them.

In these new frequencies, mobile phone operators will be able to offer mobile internet services, mobile phone services and not only that, but it remains to be seen how many investments will be made to really benefit from what they offer.

Following the auction for granting the rights to use radio frequencies in the bands 3410-3600 MHz and 3600-3800 MHz, 255 MHz were allocated, 65% more than at present. In these bands, the winning operators 2K Telecom SRL, Orange Romania SA, RCS&RDS SA, Societatea Nationala de Radiocomunicatii SA and Vodafone Romania SA will be able to provide nationally, among other things, data transmission services and internet access on radio band support wide.
2K Telecom SRL awarded 2 pairs of 2×5 MHz blocks in the 3410-3600 MHz band, against the amount of €740.100 representing the license fee.
Orange Romania SA obtained 5 paired blocks of 2×5 MHz in the 3410-3600 MHz band and 9 unpaired blocks of 5 MHz in the 3600-3800 MHz band. For the spectrum obtained during the auction, Orange Romania SA must pay a license fee in the amount of €3.924.000.
RCS&RDS, which did not own spectrum in the 3,4-3,8 GHz band, won, following the auction, 10 unpaired blocks of 5 MHz in the 3600-3800 MHz band for which it will pay the amount of €1.880.000, representing the fee of license.
Societatea Nationala de Radiocomunicatii SA awarded 10 unpaired blocks of 5 MHz in the 3600-3800 MHz band. For the obtained spectrum, Societatea Nationala de Radiocomunicatii SA will pay a license fee in the amount of €1.850.001.
Vodafone Romania SA won 4 paired blocks of 2×5 MHz in the 3410-3600 MHz band, for which it will pay the amount of €1.730.000 representing the license fee.
The license fees, the cumulative value of which amounts to €10.124.101, are to be paid by December 2, 2015, and the new rights to use the radio spectrum will enter into force on January 1, 2016, for a period of 10 years.
During the selection procedure, 16 paired blocks with a bandwidth of 2×5 MHz allocated nationally in the 3,4-3,6 GHz band were available, of which 11 blocks were allocated, and 36 unpaired blocks with the bandwidth of 5 MHz allocated at the national level in the 3,6-3,8 GHz band, of which 29 blocks have been allocated.
