Black Friday 2015: Romanians spend a third more online than in 2014

Bucharest, November 19, 2015: The online budget allocated by Romanians for this year's Black Friday edition will reach an average of 460 lei, over a third higher than last year's, which amounted to around 340 lei, NETOPIA mobilPay estimates , the leader of digital payments in Romania.

Also, the average amount spent on Black Friday will double compared to the annual average. Thus, this year, the average daily transaction was 230 lei, and on Friday the Romanians will spend, on average, 460 lei.

Consumers' appetite for the low prices already announced by online retailers will also impact the total number of digital payments made in Romania, which will increase by more than 50%, at a rate similar to last year.

In terms of the devices from which online payments will be made on Black Friday, about a third will be generated from tablets and smartphones with smart operating systems, and the rest from desktops and laptops.

"E-commerce perhaps best reflects the evolution of consumption in Romania. Financial stability is felt, which prompts Romanians to buy. And even if they do it in a traditional event, with massive discounts, it is important that they will spend more than last year and will do it, more and more, using the card at the expense of the cashback", says Antonio Eram, CEO and Founder of NETOPIA mobilPay.

At the same time, this year will be the first Black Friday in Romania where consumers can also pay for ordered products with Bitcoin, at all NETOPIA mobilPay partner merchants that have implemented digital currency transactions.

Regarding the consumption habit in the important cities of the country, NETOPIA mobilPay forecasts show that it will be maintained even on Black Friday, with over half of the payments made in Bucharest, followed by those in Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Brașov, Iași and Constanța , each with a rate between 5% and 3%. Most transactions will be made for IT&C products, fashion, cosmetics, home & deco, books, but also tourist packages or plane tickets.

And this year, as with every Black Friday edition, with many discounts announced and, implicitly, with a high number of online transactions, NETOPIA mobilPay representatives, together with partners, recommend to all those who pay with the card, including merchants, to ensure that processors have at least implemented Secure Payment Page (SSL).
