Apple is asking Samsung to pay 180 million dollars

samsung 180 million dollarsApple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), asks the company Samsung to pay him another 180 million dollars in addition to those 548 million dollars that the Koreans have already agreed to pay after losing a US lawsuit though that decision was again appealed to the American Supreme Court.

This additional amount of 180 million dollars that Apple is asking for is based on 5 smartphones launched by Samsung after 2012, they copy various design elements developed by the Apple company and protected by patents.

The 5 smartphones in question would have the same design elements for which patent infringement was demonstrated and confirmed, but for now it is not known exactly which models Apple has in mind, as the evidence submitted with the summons request is not public.

Although the lawsuit comes as a surprise to many people, some argue that Apple would be entitled to demand more money from Samsung since the infringement is for design element patents for which protection has already been demonstrated.

According to the Davis declaration, Apple wants supplemental damages (damages for infringements after the cutoff date of the jury trial) amounting to $178.7 million and prejudgment interest totaling $1.2 million, ie, $180 million in total.

Now it remains to be seen how many years will pass until a decision will be made in this new legal battle, that is if it will reach a trial or not, but the two companies continue to attack each other in the global courts, despite the fact that Samsung is a primary supplier for many of Apple's product components.
