Today the company Apple has announced the initiation of a replacement program for some adapters used to charge iPhones, iPads, Macs and iPod Touches sold in certain geographical areas, these having a defect that can generate electric shock to users during charging.
Charger adapters sold in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Europe, New Zealand and South Korea contain this defect as well could electrocute users, the cases where this problem could happen are very rare, but the problem is big enough that Apple replaces these chargers.
These adapters were sold by Apple together with certain iDevices/Macs between 2003 and 2015, so we are talking about 12 years in which the Apple company sold a product that can kill people, but starting today they can be replaced by those who own them.
In the first image below, you can see what the adapter looks like, remade by the Apple company to stop charging users during charging, a change to its internal structure solving the problem to keep users safe.
In the images below you can see what the defect itself looks like, the contact pins of the charger remaining stuck in a socket, and when removing the accessory, so that the user risks being electrocuted and can be seriously injured in certain situations, 12 such accidents being reported to Apple in the 12 years.
Apple created a special page in which users can identify problem adapters to be able to ask for their replacement in an authorized service or at the operator from whom they made the purchase, practically all adapters sold in Europe needing replacement.
Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, Apple two-prong AC wall adapters designed for use in continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina, and Brazil may break, posing a risk of electric shock if touched. These wall adapters were shipped with Mac devices and some iOS devices between 2003 and 2015, and are included in the Apple International Travel Adapter Kit.
Because customer safety is always Apple's top priority, we have voluntarily decided to replace each affected wall outlet adapter with a new, redesigned adapter free of charge. We encourage customers to replace any affected components by following the process below
Note: Other wall adapters, including those for the United States, United Kingdom, China, and Japan, and Apple USB power adapters are not affected by this program.
Identifying the wall outlet adapter
Compare your adapter with the ones in the images below. An affected wall outlet adapter has either 4 or 5 characters or no character displayed vertically in the inner slot where it attaches to the Apple power adapter. The redesigned adapters have a 3-letter regional code (EUR, KOR, AUS, ARG or BRA) in that slot.
