Apple engineers threaten to resign if they are forced to compromise iOS security

The dispute between Apple and the FBI moves to another level today, the famous American publication New York Times claims that Apple engineers threaten to resign if they are forced by the FBI to compromise the security of the iOS operating system so that the government agency has access to data.

The refusal of Apple employees to compromise the security of the operating system could take place even if Apple will have no choice and will be forced to help the FBI, and if the engineers who created iOS leave, it will no longer be possible to open the operating system to the authorities .

The American publication talked to several current and former Apple engineers, all of whom refused to work on creating an iOS that would contain a gateway that would allow the FBI to access user data much more easily than at the moment .

The interesting part of this article is that if the employees resign, Apple will be able to claim that it has no one to modify its iOS in order to comply with a possible law that forces it to compromise iOS security, but in this situation there will be no more people who will develop iOS in the future.

APPLE EMPLOYEES ARE ALREADY DISCUSSING WHAT THEY WILL DO IF ORDERED TO HELP LAW ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITIES. SOME SAY THEY MAY BALK AT THE WORK, WHILE OTHERS MAY EVEN QUIT THEIR HIGH-PAYING JOBS RATHER THAN UNDERMINE THE SECURITY OF THE SOFTWARE THEY HAVE ALREADY CREATED, ACCORDING TO MORE THAN A HALF-DOZEN CURRENT AND FORMER APPLE EMPLOYEES. AMONG THOSE INTERVIEWED WERE APPLE ENGINEERS WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE PRODUCTS AND SECURITY, AS WELL AS FORMER SECURITY ENGINEERS AND EXECUTIVES.

If I had to give my opinion, I would say that no one will resign, and if a legislation that will force Apple to compromise iOS security is promulgated, those in Cupertino will respect it, but my opinion is that this it will never happen, the long-term implications being far too great.

  1. "Apple engineers threaten to resign if they are forced by the FBI to compromise the security of the iOS operating system so that the government agency has access to data, Really?? How many times it appears that a solution to jailbreak ios is compromised. "multiple exploits for os x and safari revealed during pwn20wn 2016", news published by zaone yesterday. The engineers' resignation is accepted :)))))

  2. What an embarrassing theater Apple is playing. They do not agree to compromise the security of iOS, very good. In this case, it is natural for them to act like men, be upright and defend their point of view. Alas, they will resign a few employees. ..who cares? No one is replaceable.

  3. What theater...
If the engineers quit, and there are no more engineers to open the system, the FBI's problem remains. Then there will be two solutions:
    1. Apple will have to find other engineers, it's her problem where and who, OR
    2. The operating system is outlawed
