Why it's a good idea to uninstall QuickTime from Windows right now

QuickTime is a software developed by the Apple company and distributed together with iTunes for the Windows platform, it has been integrated in OS X for a very long time, but those from Cupertino do not intend to provide support for it in the Microsoft platform.

In a statement sent to an American publication, the Apple company stated that it no longer intends to provide updates for QuickTime dedicated to Windows, so that users remain without protection against the vulnerabilities that the American system has.

The past days two QuickTime vulnerabilities have been disclosed that allow a hacker to take full control over a PC running even the latest version of QuickTime, and unfortunately there is no patch to solve these problems.

Considering that Apple does not intend to release one, the US government recommends that users uninstall QuickTime for Windows, and I do the same, especially since you have nothing to lose by removing it from Windows.

Computers running QuickTime for Windows will continue to work after support ends. However, using unsupported software may increase the risks from viruses and other security threats. Potential negative consequences include loss of confidentiality, integrity, or availability of data, as well as damage to system resources or business assets. The only mitigation available is to uninstall QuickTime for Windows. Users can find instructions for uninstalling QuickTime for Windows on the Apple Uninstall QuickTime page.

Uninstalling QuickTime from Windows is very simple by accessing the Control Panel and the Programs and Features section, and from there all you have to do is choose QuickTime and the Uninstall option.
