Next year we will be able to film 4K at 60 fps and HDR on the smartphone

4K filming at 60 FPS and HDR filming will be available starting in 2017 in iPhone and other smartphones.

The implementation of the option to shoot 4K video clips on the smartphone was an unexpected achievement of the manufacturers of image sensors for cameras, and in 2017 we are going to have a new pleasant surprise from them, 4K filming at 60 fps and with HDR.

At the moment, 4K video clips made with the iPhone are recorded at 30 fps, frames per second, and only the 1080p videos are filmed at 60 fps, but from next year this should change and not only for Apple terminals .

Omnivision, one of Apple's partners, presented today the OV12890 image sensor, having a resolution of 12 megapixels and being able to record 4K video clips at 60 fps, but also 1080p video clips at 240 fps, so in slow motion.

The PureCelPlusS technology is what allows the recording of video clips at so many frames per second, and the change will allow the recording of video clips of a much better and more real quality than until now, and this not only on the iPhone.

The OV12890 leverages OmniVision's PureCelPlus-S pixel technology to capture full resolution 12-megapixel images and video at 45 FPS, ultra-high resolution 4K2K video at 60 FPS, and 1080p full HD definition video at 240 FPS via high speed D-PHY and C - PHY interfaces. The OV12890 also supports advanced features such as high dynamic range (HDR).

There is a very big difference between video clips recorded at 30 fps and those recorded at 60 fps, and starting next year I am sure that we will benefit from this change in iPhone terminals as well, especially since the new image sensor will enter production at the end this year.

Video clips at 60 fps take up much more space than those recorded at 30 fps, but we already know that Apple will launch the iPhone 7 with at least 32 GB of storage space, so an improvement of the camera from this point of view would fit perfectly with Apple's strategy.
