A former Apple employee talks about the changes made by Tim Cook and the issue of secrets

Starting with the summer of 2011, Apple went through a process of gradual change, Tim Cook wanting to leave his mark on the company at the head of which he was installed at the head, a former employee of those from Cupertino confirming the fact that Apple is no longer the same place where he worked under Steve Jobs.

Bob Messerschmidt is the name of the employee, he joined Apple after his former company, Rare Light, was bought, it being specialized in research in the field of sensors for monitoring heartbeats, his adventure in Apple ending in 2013, when he decided to found another company.

He claims that Apple has changed a lot and the secrecy within the company is to blame, because if until 2011 Steve Jobs wanted to keep information about new products secret in order to amaze the audience at conferences, now the secrets are used by to employees in the internal battles.

According to Messerschmidt, some employees of the Apple company give themselves more importance than they have and generate the idea that their work is much more important than it is, they use this secrecy to maintain the existence of a so-called "empire" inside the Apple company.

It's definitely not the same place. There is really a contingent at Apple that has resorted to the tools of secrecy. There's definitely a contingent at Apple that wants secrecy because it helps them maintain an empire, in a sense. It helps them create a sense that they're doing more important things that they really have.

Messerschmidt led the team that developed the heart rate sensor that was implemented in the Apple Watch, but says that not all of his recommendations regarding the implementation of this technology in the smartwatch were received with gratitude within the company.

He would have liked the sensors to be used in the part of the wrist that exposes the veins, so that all the readings are as accurate as possible, but Jony Ive refused the idea saying that people do not use their watches in this way, so the use is recommended with the skin scan on the opposite side of the wrist.

We had to listen to them. They are the voice of the user. There's the whole field of Industrial Design that focuses on the use case, the user experience.
