Facebook displays vertical videos in a larger format

Facebook will display vertical videos in News Feed on mobile to convince people to watch more video content.

The Facebook company will display vertical video clips in a new format on mobile phones and tablets, according to information obtained by an American publication. Although Snapchat optimizes these video clips for the orientation in which they are viewed, those at Facebook think differently and will no longer cut their edges to display them on mobile.

Instead, Facebook will display these video clips fully informed, but in a smaller frame, so that the entire content of the video clips appears on the users' screens. The new video display format will be applied in the Facebook app for iOS and Android, the following change will display the content with an aspect ratio of 2:3, instead of 1:1 now.

The new format for displaying Facebook video clips will also be applied in the News Feed, so theoretically we will not have to see them on the whole screen to understand what is happening there. The change comes amid an increase in the viewing of content in this format in online video streaming applications, with users becoming increasingly accustomed to it.

Facebook will stop cutting videos

According to some studies done in the past, vertical videos get more views than those in landscape format, and Facebook is trying to take advantage of this. Of course, recording video clips in portrait format, i.e. vertically, is wrong, but if everyone does this, you have nothing to do but adapt to the trend.

"We know people like immersive experiences on Facebook, so we're going to start showing a larger portion of each vertical video clip in the News Feed on mobile devices."

Facebook tested this new system for several months and noticed that people watch more videos this way, so it does not make changes without prior research. For now, it is not known when Facebook will make the change for its mobile users, but probably in the next month we will see it active within the social network.
