Apple Watch recognizes its owner based on the heartbeat

In the future, the Apple Watch will be able to recognize its owner based on the heartbeat, a truly unique function for a smartwatch.

Apple Watch it could become much, much smarter in the next period, the watch from Apple will have the function of being able to recognize its owner. Everything was revealed today through a patent, suggesting that this identification could be done by analyzing the heart rate.

The system developed for Apple Watch is similar to the one created for Touch ID, but instead of scanning a fingerprint, it would have analyzed the heart rate of the user. After analyzing it and matching it with a previous recording made for the user, the watch could be unlocked immediately to provide access to all data.

To monitor the heart rate, the sensors in the Apple Watch would project a strong light on the user's skin and measure how much of it is absorbed or reflected back to him. Based on this measurement, the level of blood present in the veins can be determined, all data being stored directly in the Apple Watch to be used in the future for comparisons.

Apart from this mode of operation, the Apple Watch can retrieve information from other sensors that could be implemented by Apple in the product. More precisely, we are talking about an accelerometer or a gyroscope, these determining any movement of the users, while other gestures such as raising the hand with the watch would determine the scanning of the skin.

"A light emitter and light sensor pair can be used to determine one or more characteristics of a user's vasculature. For example, a pulse oximeter employs a light emitter and a light sensor to measure the percentage of oxygenated blood in a subject. For example, light information can be obtained at one or more light sensors, and the information information can be compared to stored information associated with a user identity. Based on the comparison, the user of the device can be identified as having the user identity."

Using this system, the Apple Watch could be included to authorize payments made by users, as Touch ID does for Apple Pay. Of course, for now everything is in the project stage, the Apple company being able to offer the system one day, but no one knows if it will ever be ready for release.
