CE finalizes the legislation for the elimination of roaming

The European Commission established the final provisions of the legislation that will eliminate roaming in Europe from June 15, 2017.

The European Commission is in the process of finalizing the legislation based on which roaming will be completely eliminated in Europe starting on June 15, 2017. The European Commission was and remains determined in the initiative to completely eliminate roaming tariffs for telephony European furniture, and in the middle of next year everything will be finalized.

Based on the legislation that will be imposed starting from June 15, 2016, customers of mobile operators will be able to benefit anywhere in Europe from everything that their own operator offers them in their country of origin. More precisely, with a mobile phone subscription from Romania you will be able to talk from anywhere else in Europe without roaming charges, you will be able to surf the Internet and not only that.

Practically, roaming disappears completely and wherever we are in Europe, we will enjoy the same benefits as in the country of origin, but only for mobile telephony. The European Commission calls this plan Roam like at Home, and mobile phone operators will be forced to waive roaming surcharges for customers from the middle of next year.

Giving an example for this legislation, the European Commission explains that a standard price of 0.85 euro cents/MB of internet traffic will be applied for internet browsing. In this idea, those who live in the UK, for example, will benefit from more internet traffic than the rest of the Europeans when they travel, because the pound has a higher value than the euro, but only as long as the UK remains part of the EU .

"Example: with his €70 per month contract, Tim living in the Netherlands gets unlimited calls, texts and data for his smartphone. When he travels abroad on holidays, he will have unlimited calls and texts. For data, he will get twice the equivalent of €70 worth of data at the wholesale roaming data price cap, ie 0.85 cent/MB according to the Commission wholesale proposal, meaning more than 16 GB in this case. While roaming, he will get twice the volume he has paid for."

In order to prevent abuses, the European Commission will also allow the application of roaming charges for certain customers who excessively use unlimited subscriptions outside their country of origin. However, mobile operators will have to notify these people 14 days before charging them roaming charges, so they will have enough time to find an alternative offer.
