Fitbit bought Vector, the creator of the first Romanian smartwatch

Fitbit bought Vector, the company that created the first Romanian smartwatch under the name Vector Watch, which was launched in 2015 on the market.

Fitbit bought Vector, the company that created the first smartwatch developed in Romania, which was launched in March 2015 at prices between 299 euros and 499 euros. Radu Georgescu is the main investor of Vector, and the team behind the company managed to create a smart watch that enjoyed quite a lot of success in our country.

Based in London, the Vector company managed to generate global interest when it announced that its smartwatch, Vector Watch, can offer an autonomy of up to 30 days. The global sales of Vector Watch seem to be very good since the attention of the Fitbit company was drawn, which bought the Romanian startup for an amount that has not yet been disclosed.

Following the acquisition by Fitbit, the Vector team will have as its main objective the rapid integration of Fitbit services into Vector Watch. Unfortunately, the development of new products under the Vector brand ended here, as the company still has a collection of watches that includes no less than 12 models, all of which are also sold in Romania.

The founder of Vector, Andrei Pitis, is going to become the head of the Fitbit division in Romania, but also the vice president of the engineering division within Fitbit, and will be involved in the development of the company's future products. The employees of the Vector company will most likely be integrated into the Fitbit team and will work on the future products of the manufacturer of wearables.

"Today, we are happy to announce that the Vector Watch team and our software platform are joining Fitbit, the leader in the connected health and fitness market! We believe this is an important milestone as a moment when we will start building other new and amazing products, features and experiences, incorporating our unique technology and knowhow with Fitbit's experience and global community."

This is one of the most important acquisitions in recent years involving a Romanian company, especially since we are talking about a very popular type of product. Fitbit is trying to stay in the attention of global customers with new and innovative products, and with the help of those from Vector, it will probably succeed in creating strong competition for Apple, Samsung and other manufacturers.
