Second Celebgate hacker convicted

The second hacker of the famous scandal with pictures stolen from the iCloud accounts of some Hollywood stars, was sentenced yesterday to 9 months in prison with execution. Edward Majerczyk is the man in question, he is 29 years old and originally from Chicago, the FBI convinced him to admit his guilt and plead guilty before the court.

He admitted that he tricked more than 300 people, 30 of whom were blind, in order to obtain the location data of their Gmail and iCloud accounts. Although we are talking about a very large number of people, none of the victims was mentioned in the court's public documents, so their identity was protected by the authorities.

The investigation in this case was opened at the beginning of September 2014, when thousands of nude pictures of Hollywood stars reached the Internet, along with several hundred films. Edward Majerczyk expressed during the entire process his regret for what he did, but although he admitted his guilt, the FBI did not find any connection between the hacker and the materials published online.

His lawyer stated that the man suffers from depression and that he did not publish any of the files obtained as a result of this hack, so the materials would not have come from him. Another hacker named Ryan Collins allegedly published all these leaks and video clips, he was already sentenced last year to an 18-month prison sentence for the crimes he committed.

"At the time of the offense, Mr. Majerczyk was suffering from depression and looked to pornography websites and Internet chat rooms in an attempt to fill some of the voids and disappointment he was feeling in his life."
