iPhone 8 – Apple describes the facial recognition system

The iPhone 8 and the facial recognition system are described in a new patent that was recently registered to the Apple company.

iPhone 8 it has a very interesting description of the facial recognition system that is going to be offered to us, the Apple company disclosing everything in a patent. This patent is the continuation of another one registered for the Apple company in 2016 and it describes the function that will make the iPhone 8 great in 2017.

According to this patent, the iPhone 8 will be able to recognize the user's face by analyzing it and unlock it on demand. The system is similar to the one offered in Android for some time, but for the iPhone 8 Apple intends to offer something that works well and has a much better accuracy, in the end.

The facial recognition system proposed by Apple for iPhone 8 makes unlocking much easier after simply lifting the terminal from the table. Pressing a button will no longer be necessary for unlocking, but Apple could still implement the option to interact with the terminal for unlocking.

In order to provide this facial recognition function for the iPhone 8, the Apple company is also talking about an infrared sensor that could be implemented. Apart from that, the Apple company is also going to implement a better front camera for the iPhone 8, all part of its plan to implement facial recognition.

The infrared sensor will work in tandem with the one for proximity and ambient light, and so the iPhone 8 will know when to scan our face for unlocking. Moreover, LockScreen could also display an image of our face during the scan, iPhone 8 being able to indicate the correct location of the face in relation to the camera for an accurate scan.

"In an embodiment of the invention, an unlocked mobile device is configured to capture images, analyze the images to detect a user's face, and automatically lock the device in response to determining that a user's face does not appear in the images. The camera capturing and face recognition processing may be triggered by the device having detected that it has been motionless for a threshold period of time."

This is the most detailed description made by the Apple company for the possible facial recognition system to be implemented in the iPhone 8. Based on all this information, it seems quite clear that Apple wants to implement a facial recognition system in the iPhone, and iPhone 8 could be the first product with this technology.
