LG is making massive investments for the iPhone 8

LG Display is one of the main partners of the Apple company in terms of providing screens that end up in iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch, or even Macs. The company has specialized in the production of IPS LCD screens because it has very large contracts from Apple for screens with such technologies, but this does not allow it to supply the screen iPhone 8.

We already know that the iPhone 8 will have an OLED screen and although LG Display will provide the screen for the iPhone 7S, in the case of the iPhone 8 it will remain outside the list of suppliers of the Apple company. To ensure that this does not happen in the future, those from LG Display announced their intention to invest 3.56 billion dollars in the construction of a new factory in Paju, South Korea, and from it they could deliver screens in 2018 OLED for iPhone 8.

LG Display will build this factory only to manufacture flexible or standard OLED screens, and they will also be used in televisions or other electronic products. Those from LG Display wanted to complete the construction of the factory by June 2018, but it seems that the plans have been advanced, so they could become partners for the iPhone 8 much earlier.

The amount that LG Display invests to manufacture OLED screens, mainly for Apple, is enormous, but it will be recovered in not many years thanks to the contracts with those from Cupertino. LG Display has earned billions upon billions of dollars from Apple in recent years, so it has the confidence to make investments of this kind, because it will recover its money.

"LG Display is planning to invest about $3.56 billion (4 trillion KRW) into P10, which is its new factory in Paju, and construct production lines for 6th generation flexible OLEDs in 2018. It seems that LG Display is planning to secure its position as the second supplier for Apple iPhone by quickly increasing its production capability of OLED for Smartphone.”
