HomePod - how many people want to buy Apple's smart speaker?

HomePod is a smart speaker developed by the Apple company for the whole world, trying to attract customers who buy Amazon Echo or Google Home. HomePod has a multitude of very interesting technologies integrated by the Apple company, but it also has a price almost double that of Amazon's product, so how many people are willing to buy it?

Well, this is what a study conducted on 2200 people from the USA tried to find out, they were asked if they would be interested in buying HomePod over Amazon Echo or Google Home. 33% of the participants stated that they are interested in the HomePod smart speaker, but this before seeing a comparison with Amazon Echo and Google Home.

After they saw the comparison, the percentage dropped to 30%, and interest in HomePod turned out to be lower than that in Amazon Echo. Only 9% of the participants said they want to buy HomePod, half of the percentage of those who intend to buy Amazon Echo, and this mainly because it is cheaper than Apple's smart speaker.

HomePod - how many people want to buy Apple's smart speaker?

Apple customers are 2 times more interested in the HomePod smart speaker than the average American, but in their case the percentage was lower than for those interested in the Amazon Echo. 57% of the participants in the study stated that the price is the main differentiator between the smart speakers they intend to buy, and here HomePod loses to the competition.

The HomePod will cost $350, and the Amazon Echo costs $140, so a person who has never had a smart speaker before does not have such a hard choice. The consumer who has never experienced a smart speaker at home has little chance of paying $350 for HomePod at the expense of a cheaper product, and this is one of Apple's big problems.

Just like with smartwatches, people still don't understand the usefulness of smart speakers, and Apple will have to teach them to be successful with HomePod.
