iPad Pro 10.5 inch - why the new processor is very powerful

The 10.5 inch iPad Pro is the first Apple product to integrate an A10X processor produced by TSMC using a 10nm manufacturing process. Thanks to this change for the processor production technology, the iPad Pro 10.5 inch enjoys a performance increase of 30-40% compared to the old A9X chip used in previous iPad models.

Analyzing the new A10X chip of the iPad Pro 10.5 inch, an American company discovered that this is almost the smallest chip developed by Apple. Although it was expected that the new 11nm manufacturing technology would only be used in the A8 chip in the iPhone 10, here Apple has advanced things especially to offer the iPad Pro 10.5 inch very high performance.

The new A10X chip in the iPad Pro 10.5 inch is 96.4mm square, and thanks to the image below you can see that it is smaller than the A6X used many years ago by Apple. The design of the new A10X chip is similar to that of the A9X, but Apple has now integrated 3 cores, for a total of 6 threads, but also increased the L2 cache to 8 MB.

Apple has also reduced the size of the circuits, and this gives the new A10X chip a much lower energy consumption, so implicitly better autonomy for the tablet. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro still has the same cores for the video card, compared to the A9X chip, so there are no major changes here, but it wasn't really needed either, considering that iPad tablets are not surpassed in terms of graphics performance.

Having said that, the 10.5 inch iPad Pro has the most advanced integrated processor in any tablet.
