5G – The first European network was announced

5G will be officially introduced for the first time in San Marino, Telecom Italia committing to create the first network of this kind in the country by 2018.

5G it is the future of mobile networks and communications, and after the presentations and demonstrations made by the mobile operators, here we are announcing a first network. We are talking about a 5G network that the state of San Marino intends to officially launch in 2018, and Telecom Italia is the mobile phone operator that will build the entire infrastructure.

5G does not yet have its standards finalized and it will probably be at least a year before that happens, but expectations are very high from these new networks. Based on the tests done so far, the 5G networks have speeds up to 10-20 times higher than those of the current 4G networks, so in San Marino we will see for the first time how such a network will work with smartphones.

For now, 5G has no support implemented in any smartphone, there are hardly any terminals that have support for Gigabit networks, but things will change soon. It is expected that Samsung or Huawei will be among the first smartphone manufacturers that will have terminals with support for the new 5G networks, but no one knows when they will be publicly launched until now.

5G - the first European network was announced

5G will not be launched directly in San Marino, Telecom Italia announcing that it will first upgrade some antennas to 4.5G, and then the switch to 5G will be made. To begin with, 10 5G antennas will be installed directly connected to the optical fiber to offer very high Internet browsing speeds, but access to them will be extremely limited in the first period and only a few customers will be able to access them.

5G will require investments of up to 56.6 billion dollars in the next 3 years, and this is because entire networks must be changed to make room for this new technology. 5G will also create 23 million jobs in Europe by 2020, but the big advantages will be for the automotive industry, for medicine, for transport and the utilities sector, where up to 113 billion dollars can be generated annually in receipts 5G.

"San Marino is set to become the first European country to have a super-fast fifth-generation (5G) mobile network under a deal struck by the tiny republic and Telecom Italia. Telecom Italia and the government of San Marino said on Monday they had signed a memorandum of understanding to switch the existing 4G network and reach a full nation-wide 5G trial system by the end of 2018, increasing speeds by almost 10 times."
