Facebook needs a personal assistant for the smart speaker it wants to launch to compete with HomePod, Amazon Echo, or Google Home. Facebook has started testing a device for video calls, as well as a smart speaker, in the homes of some employees to see how well both work. Facebook has hired a lot of talented engineers this year, including some who worked for the US government, so its intentions are very clear. Facebook wants to go beyond the simple social network to generate money with physical products, separate from the smart speaker and the device for video calls, the Americans intending to produce including a modular smartphone.
