iPhone X vs iPhone 8 – Brightness and Color Modification

iPhone X and iPhone 8 are compared in terms of the brightness of the screens and the shades of colors displayed when looking at them from sharp angles.

iPhone X displays different shades of screen colors depending on the angle from which Apple's new OLED screen is viewed, and I told you about this problem. In the article regarding experience with the iPhone X screen I told you that this deviation in the display of colors on the phone screen is a problem that annoys me a bit and maybe you will understand why.

iPhone X displays colors with a blue tint when the viewing angle is very close, and when we look at the screen from a higher angle, the color becomes warmer. The problem is that while you use it in your hand to write, or navigate through the menus, this change of colors is very easy to notice and becomes annoying after a certain period.

iPhone X vs iPhone 8 – brightness and color change

The iPhone X here suffers from an older problem of OLED screens, this one with the shade of colors being prominent when the phone is used in low light, in natural light it has extremely small effects. Going over that, in natural light, the iPhone X seems to have a better brightness than the iPhone 8, the Apple company managing to impress, although in the past OLED screens had worse brightness than LCD ones.

The iPhone X has a better screen than the iPhone 8, that's clear, whether we're talking about brightness or color accuracy, but when it comes to using it from an angle, things change. Apple has nothing to do in this case and we will all have to get used to this change, because it is unlikely that it will be fixed soon.

  1. I think you can read text better on the X when it's tilted so much, because you'll have black text on a cool white vs a thick gray
    oled vs ips

  2. I wasn't excited from the beginning with this super uber oled, I remain calm with my crappy LCD. And this is just the beginning.

  3. currently oled cannot exceed Ips in this problem. Maybe with time... I don't know, maybe if they will switch to microLED

  4. It doesn't seem like such a big deal to me, but I would expect more from a 6000 lei phone. I mean, if I were to pay that much money, I wouldn't want to have problems like a €100 android.

  5. I don't know what tests you did, but I put the iPhone X next to the Galaxy S7 Edge, both with maximum brightness and with TrueTone disabled. The result is that the white on the iPhone X is much whiter than the one on the S7 Edge, regardless of the angle from which I look at the device. After just a week of use, the iPhone X screen feels superior to the S7 Edge I own. Even in strong sunlight, the brightness and contract of the screen does its job brilliantly. And I keep TrueTone on all the time because I've noticed that my eyes don't feel tired like before with the Galaxy.

  6. I'm not contradicting you here because I don't own a Note 8. I just wanted to say that I'm very satisfied with the iPhone X screen and that in my case I don't feel at all that I've downgraded.

  7. in the first minute of the movie, look at the Weather icons on both screens and draw your own conclusions (and water on OLED technology)
