Microsoft - Windows Computer Performance is Substantially Reduced!

Windows will have substantially reduced performance after the installation of Microsoft patches that offer protection against Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities.

microsoft low performance windows computers

Microsoft announced during this day that the performance of Windows computers is substantially reduced after the application of patches that protect users from vulnerabilities Meltdown and Spectre. Although Intel said that the impact on computer performance should not be significant, in reality, Microsoft announced that performance will be substantially reduced for some computers.

Microsoft says that Intel Hawell processors, or older, will feel the biggest impact in performance after installing the patch for Meltdown and Spectre, so these users need to know what they will get. According to Microsoft, a series of firmware updates for processors will implement changes that will reduce performance by double-digit percentages.

The reduction in performance also depends on the version of Windows installed in the computer, Windows 10 having the smallest decrease in performance reported by the Microsoft company. Windows 7 and Windows 8 will experience the biggest drop in performance, and this is because of the way the kernel of these operating systems was designed, that of Windows 10 being better optimized.

Microsoft announces that the performance of Windows computers will have substantially reduced performance

Computers with Skylake, Kaby Lake, or newer processors will have their performance reduced by a maximum of 9% after installing the patches designed to protect them from the Meltdown and Specter vulnerabilities. Computers running Windows 10, but with Haswell or older processors, will have their performance reduced by at least 10%, and users will feel the impact, unfortunately.

"With Windows 10 on newer silicon (2016-era PCs with Skylake, Kabylake or newer CPU), benchmarks show single-digit slowdowns, but we don't expect most users to notice a change because these percentages are reflected in milliseconds. With Windows 10 on older silicon (2015-era PCs with Haswell or older CPU), some benchmarks show more significant slowdowns, and we expect that some users will notice a decrease in system performance. With Windows 8 and Windows 7 on older silicon (2015-era PCs with Haswell or older CPU), we expect most users to notice a decrease in system performance."

Computers with Hawell or older processors and running Windows 8 or Windows 7 will also experience a substantial reduction in performance, so the problems will be greater here. Performance problems are based on both the way Intel processors were designed and the kernel of Windows operating systems, so unfortunately the solutions will create more problems for users, having to choose between security and performance.

Microsoft still made the right choice by notifying users about the big impact on computer performance, the company's honesty helping customers make the right choices. Those who need good performance from computers will have to give up increased security in order to benefit from greater processing power, all because of Intel.

Unfortunately, there is no simple solution for this problem of Intel, AMD or ARM processors, it was announced that the performance will be seriously reduced, and now we also find out how big the problem is in reality for the customers.

  1. Yes, brother, you are crazy! Refrain if you don't have something constructive to say. You're a cabbage, maybe you have a job and we'll hold you back!

  2. We all understood that you are rotten rich, bro, but you forgot to remove the soil from under your nails! Co...ie, if I was wet now, it was directly on your face!

  3. yes I commented... you buy OEM windows cheap that's it... you suffer the consequences... the life of the poor is always harder. From your answer, I understood that you don't really understand the subtle things, and you were talking about neurons..

  4. maybe you are black under your nails... I respect myself. 1 more time if I didn't hold back and I was a peasant like you, you were bye bye

  5. What does the OS version matter?! You don't understand that the problem is with the processor??? I'm glad that your rich life in the tent protects you from these problems of the "poor"

  6. you don't understand that the problem is with the processor BUT through the OS it slows down your system? you do the respective update THROUGH OS windows! And windows, compared to those from apple, significantly slows down your device?! maybe you go with the tent because you don't have a wife and you don't have money... but nah, classic poor man's hike

  7. When the performances were low to force the idevice update, the Serbian no longer laughed like it did with Apple. He was very understanding. But SRB doesn't have the ability to understand things outside of Apple's sphere. When he passes capacity (8th grade) and matures, I think that then he should have access to the Internet.
For for the thousandth time, Windows is superior to macOS in many chapters, weak in others and so on. Each with advantages and disadvantages. I have both: macOS for work and Windows for entertainment. I would be bored to death with just macOS.
To sit like a sheep in a system, just for the sake of fanaticism, is childish to be elegant or in the case of the Serb, even something pathological... I think only his parents hope for his cognitive development. ☺️

  8. there it was about the battery, here it is about a cpu vulnerability...
Yes, each one has advantages and disadvantages, here the advantage is that a Mac does not really decrease in performance, while a Windows does
We with mac, we don't sit like sheep on only one system, we have bootcamp and we have 2 native systems... so you see that you got into kkt alone, because you don't know essential things... so, to quote you, I don't I could stay like you only in windows, I would be bored to death

  9. I think you can brag without offending that you have MacOS on Acer. But that MacOS is not native and you will never have the performance of a Mac. But that's how "there are some..."

  10. Acer is the worst laptop company. I had an Acer about 10 years ago. He physically disintegrated. A hinge from the display broke and later the flex cable with everything with the display and the flex case with everything in such a state that you had the feeling that it was made of rubber. Worst laptop I've had. If you want a laptop and can't stand Macs, go for Asus or Lenovo. The rest are for nothing.

  11. I've been using Ubuntu for years - I just gave up on uinblouz, too much hassle. I'm currently using Ubuntu 16.04 on an Acer with a Broadwell i3 CPU (it's about two years old), it's Superb! (sic!) both for business and home use.

  12. You can use Windows with Linix as native systems, you can also have a mac by using a virtual machine, if you buy a windows system with the money you spent on the mac, the respective system would be many times better performing (with decrease in performance)

  13. I think that the worst brand is HP. Both I and many acquaintances only had problems with heating, graphics card, thermal paste... I would go for Asus anytime, if I had to buy something with Windows.

  14. You raised your hand to answer and got laughed at in front of the class. What you are talking about is called "Hachintosh" and can be installed on almost any PC. But it has nothing to do with the version that runs natively on Macs. You can run OSX and Windows natively on one Mac, but only Windows on the others.

  15. You are right. I didn't have HP, but I know some people who have fixed the problems mentioned by you, namely overheating and batteries that die by themselves.

  16. I contradict you. It has a "pretension" of an Asus ROG (I need to see exactly what is under the hood apart from the i7 7700 and GTX 1060) and made it a Hackintosh (MacOs installed on a device dedicated to us). Really anything. Aesthetically, I don't like it because it has too much red and looks plastic, but you can have a good Hackintosh at a price a little lower than a macbook if you have good components.

  17. This is how people speculate everywhere, but until proven otherwise, we have a performance handicap on ALL Intel processors. Some have only 3-4%, others up to 30%....

  18. Bubuntuu...Africaa. If Shuttleworth had known in 2004 that his version of Linux would be the most widespread, stable and user friendly, he would surely have asked for money for it. Now he makes money only from support.

  19. Eh, not really on any PC. Usually on a laptop there is little chance that it will work and if you manage to get it to boot there will surely be components that will not work (wi-fi, audio, etc.). You have the best chances on a desktop, but even there it is not a simple place. If you want to be successful and have a beast of a hackintosh that works as it should, you build your computer in such a way that it is compatible. Gigabyte cards have the greatest compatibility, of course with Intel processors. But even then it's not quite that simple because usually to be able to boot from the installation stick you have to use various arguments that you don't know and that differ from configuration to configuration and from one OS version to another . After installing the system, you need to install a bootloader so that you can boot the system without the USB stick. Also in that boot loader you have to make certain configurations to make iMessage work. Then you have to install your drivers (kext) which is also not a very simple process to make absolutely everything work.
The idea is that it is possible, but it is a rather complicated process that requires a lot of documentation on specialized websites and a lot of time. If you have time and passion you can make a super beast of a car, but it's not something that anyone can do. There are specialized websites that can help you with the necessary information and software. Reinstalling a mac OS on a mac machine is much simpler and anyone can do it (I think).

  20. If you use openCL mac with amd it stays over. For teenage games, windows and nvidia cards are clearly a better solution
But let's not forget, now with bootcamp and an nvidia 1080 via eGpu it's already kind of closing that gap

  21. I don't know how things are on Windows, but on MacOS I'm up to date with the updates, and I haven't seen any difference. I tested in WoW and a mkv remux. With mkv, it seems to have lasted about 2 minutes longer, but nothing else. Macbook pro 2016 without touchbar.

  22. I confirm that performance is NOT reduced on Mac, at least on mine, I don't know how it is on older models. Tested with world of warcraft and remux mkv. Same performance.
In order to avoid useless arguments like this, who has a macbook/imac etc. make an effort and test, with macos not with windows, and tell us what result you got.

  23. same for me...nothing, 0 even on cinebench
imac and macbook pro the same even on the 12" macbook (where I thought there might be a problem due to the 5W cpu)

  24. True, it is difficult to make those features work because they only work with clover bootloader and it can be quite difficult to configure.
I needed a few days to make absolutely everything functional.
However, if you are passionate about things like this and know how to make your own PC, the moment you finish and have everything working, the satisfaction is immense.
Bonus: when I built my PC I had a hackintosh more powerful than any Macbook Pro on the market at a much lower price, plus a real gaming beast with windows on a separate ssd that works in dual boot and at startup I can choose which system to enter. If I don't select anything, it will boot by default on Windows because I prefer windows in general.

  25. so you had dual boot like on a mac when you have bootcamp. Well, for gaming you have no way to talk with mac, at least until now. I see that some have solved this with eGPU but nah.. Are you ok with windows 10 with the latest update?

  26. Yes, that's exactly what I had and still have. Everything works very well. I have seen tests done on the eGPU and the performance leaves much to be desired, at least for the time being. The new pci express 4.0 standard has just been announced. It is suspected that with the arrival of this new standard, eGPU performance will be improved. However, I'm of the opinion that a mobile CPU and GPU will never be at the level of a desktop CPU and GPU. It is primarily about cooling. A laptop cpu has a small cooler due to lack of space and I was able to put a rather huge cooler on my cpu which cools much better (be quiet! Dark Rock 3).
Regarding the update, I can't say anything yet because as far as I know, that update was released yesterday and I was so busy that I didn't even turn on the PC. I think I won't feel that update because the day before yesterday I did a test with an intel utility and it told me that I don't have a vulnerable system even though my processor was on the affected list. I think I already received some patches from Microsoft that closed that vulnerability, but I didn't feel a drop in performance.
At the same time, I don't really do heavy tasks on the PC anymore, just some productivity because for gaming I switched to the console 2 years ago. I prefer to play COD on X1X when I have time.

  27. You can get the general use but you will always face certain difficulties when you update the OS and in general the installation and optimization experience is much more complicated. If you are a person who prefers simple things (which is what the native mac generally offers) then the hackintosh is definitely not for you. It is more something for enthusiasts.

  28. As far as I know, this doesn't really work with the updates on Hackintosh. I will ask and I will answer.

Later edit: Cica in principle should work, but he will not make any updates for reasons of stability and compatibility. It now has High Sierra. He says that since it is not a native system, he had to edit some drivers (wifi, BT and there was something else) to be able to use all the parts of the laptop running in Mac. This surpasses me with Hackintosh because I run exactly the opposite, namely bootcamp with win 10 on a macbook pro.

  29. There is something else. He said that in the mac the video card he uses is that of the processor (intel graphics) not the GTX. Anyway, it doesn't use graphics-intensive stuff in MacOs, but when rendering, instead of using cuda cores from nvidia, it uses the processor... a little bit slower, but very ok anyway.
