iOS 11.3 the Apple company has implemented a new function that was requested by the European Union authorities in August last year, with the aim of saving thousands of people in the coming years. We are talking about a function called Advanced Mobile Location, it being integrated to help the emergency services locate us much more easily when we call to ask for help for any kind of emergency.
The European authorities have requested since August 2017 the implementation of this function in the iPhone because it helps emergency service operators to more easily identify the location from which a phone call is made. According to the EU authorities, the Advanced Mobile Location function can improve the accuracy of locating phone calls by up to 4000 times, and this can save up to 7500 lives and 95 billion euros in the coming years, thanks to iOS 11.3.

iOS 11.3 with Advanced Mobile Location allows the iPhone to automatically detect when we place a phone call to an emergency service, to activate the phone's GPS and send a message with our location to the service. Everything is done automatically, in the background, by the iPhone starting with iOS 11.3, so that while we report the problem to the emergency service, the operator who answers the phone automatically also knows where the phone call is coming from.
"This is huge news for people's safety. It literally means saving more lives. From spring onwards, both Android and iOS devices will be able to provide accurate location to rescuers. It is now up to the countries to deploy AML everywhere in the world."
I could not tell you if the Advanced Mobile Location function is also implemented for emergency services in Romania, but EU representatives say that the investments to integrate such a system are minimal. The benefits of AML for all those who have integrated this system are as clear as possible, many lives can be saved with the help of the function, and in some cases people who place false calls to the emergency services can be held accountable.
Before concluding, I must mention the fact that the function has been implemented in Android for at least a year.
