iOS 11.3: HOW To Disable iPhone Performance Limitation

iOS 11.3 allows you to disable iPhone performance limitation thanks to a new function implemented by Apple, but here's how to use it and what the information about battery health means.

iOS 11.3 Disable iPhone Performance Limitation

iOS 11.3 has finally been implemented by the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), the option to disable iPhone performance limitation, the new function being offered starting with beta version 2 for the whole world. Everyone who installs iOS 11.3 beta 2 has the opportunity to check in Settings > Battery > Battery Health, Configurations > Battery > Battery Health, information on the state of "health" of the battery and the limitation of iPhone performance.

iOS 11.3 will display this menu only after a iPhone shuts down suddenly for the first time, the affected models being all those launched between iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 Plus, regardless of the model sold. All iPhones that have installed iOS 11.3 for the first time will have the performance limitation function disabled until a sudden shutdown occurs, from that point the battery health menu will also be displayed.

iOS 11.3 will limit the performance of the phones from now on and will display detailed information about what is happening, but in the beta version the menu is displayed regardless of any previous sudden closure. In the beta version, Apple offers this menu as standard so that everyone knows what they will face after iOS 11.3 is released in public beta version by the Apple company, so you know what you are going to receive.

iOS 11.3 – here's how to disable iPhone performance limitation

iOS 11.3 will allow you to disable the limitation of iPhone performance, but this will generate sudden shutdowns when the battery cannot provide the necessary energy for the operation of the phone's components. This is the risk assumed by iPhone customers who install iOS 11.3 and disable this limitation, the Apple company finally offering this option for those who should have had it from the very beginning in their devices.

iOS 11.3 brings options for those who are affected by this problem of limiting iPhone performance, but the solution consists in replacing the used battery with one that offers the desired performance. Apple offers the possibility to replace the iPhone battery at the price of 30 dollars, or euros, including in Romania, so if you have phones with limited performance and in iOS 11.3, then the only solution is to replace the used battery.

Having said that, here's how Apple describes the information that iOS 11.3 is going to display for the health of iPhone batteries.

iOS 11.3 battery maximum capacity

The maximum capacity of your battery

The Battery Health screen includes information on the battery's maximum capacity and on the battery's ability to deliver peak performance.

Maximum battery capacity measures the capacity of the battery compared to when the battery was new. Batteries are at 100% when first activated, and their capacity will decrease as the batteries chemically age, which may result in shorter times between device charges.

A normal battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 500 full charge cycles under normal use. One year warranty includes service for a defective battery. If the warranty expires, Apple offers battery service for a fee. Learn more about charge cycles.

iOS 11.3 battery maximum capacity

Performance is normal

When the battery health can support peak performance under normal conditions and has no performance management features applied, you will see this message:

"Your battery is currently allowing normal peak performance."

iOS 11.3 battery performance 1

Applied performance management functionality

When the performance management functionality has been applied, you will see this message:

“This iPhone experienced an unexpected shutdown because the battery could not provide the required peak power. To prevent this from happening again, performance management measures have been applied. Disable…”

Note: If you turn off performance management, you won't be able to turn it back on. It will be automatically reactivated if another unexpected shutdown occurs. You will also have the option to disable this functionality.

iOS 11.3 unknown battery health

Unknown battery health

If iOS can't determine battery health, you'll see this message:

“This iPhone cannot determine battery health. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can check the battery. More about service options…”

This problem can be caused by an improperly installed battery or an unknown part in the battery.

iOS 11.3 battery performance limitation disabled

Performance management functionality is disabled

If you disable performance management functionality that has been applied, you will see this message:

“This iPhone experienced an unexpected shutdown because the battery could not provide the required peak power. You have manually disabled performance management measures."

If the device experiences another unexpected shutdown, the performance management features will be reapplied. You will also have the option to disable this functionality.

iOS 11.3 damaged battery

Deteriorated battery health

If the battery health has deteriorated significantly, the message below will appear:

“The health of your battery is significantly degraded. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery to fully restore performance and capacity. More about service options…”

This message does not indicate a safety issue. You can still use the battery. However, you may experience more obvious battery and performance issues. Replacing the battery with a new one can give you a superior experience.
