Samsung Galaxy S9: Facial Recognition is a BAD JOKE

The Samsung Galaxy S9 does not have a facial recognition system as good as the Face ID in the iPhone X, experts in IT security have confirmed for customers.

Samsung Galaxy S9 has implemented a facial recognition system by the Samsung company, called Intelligent Scan, using the iris scanner and 2D facial recognition from Android to authenticate users. The Samsung Galaxy S9 has implemented the Intelligent Scan function as a response to Face ID from iPhone X, but computer security researchers say that the system is a bad joke, not something useful.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 scans intelligently first using the standard and insecure 2D facial recognition system of Android, but if it doesn't work, the iris scanner is used, and if that doesn't work either, both are combined. Experts say that the Samsung Galaxy S9 favors the speed of unlocking through facial recognition instead of increasing security, and that's why the system itself is a bad joke, not something safe, like Face ID.

Samsung Galaxy S9 does not allow the use of Intelligent Scan with Samsung Pay, just like last year when facial recognition could not be used with this system, so Samsung also confirms that the function does not offer security. It's still strange that Samsung combined two biometric security systems without making one in the end, but the Samsung Galaxy S9 shouldn't surprise anyone because it has bad and half-thought functions, because that's how Samsung works in general.

"When unlocking your phone, it will first scan your face. If that fails to unlock the phone, the device will then check your irises. If both fail, Intelligent Scan will try to authenticate your identity using a combination of the two. And it all happens almost instantaneously.. They want to provide some level of security but also make it easy and effective for you to get into the phone. This is probably trying to play catchup with how smooth the user experience is for the iPhone.”

The Samsung Galaxy S9 had this Intelligent scan function presented by some as a real achievement and almost as good as Face ID, but it barely surpasses last year's security system. Having said that, the Samsung Galaxy S9 does not offer biometric security for face scanning, as the iPhone X does with Face ID, but only a "toy" function for people to have fun with when they are bored of scanning fingerprints.
