The first 10 Gbps Mobile Network will be launched in 2018

The first mobile phone network with internet speeds of up to 10 Gbps will be launched in 2018 as a real first for the industry.

10 Gbps Mobile Network Launched in 2018

The first mobile phone network that will be able to offer Internet browsing speeds of up to 10 Gbps is to be launched this year, although even those of 1 Gbps are not popular. SK Telecom, one of the largest mobile phone networks in South Korea, has announced the creation of impressive infrastructure for the country in the coming months.

In the first part of the year, mobile operators will improve existing networks to offer internet speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps for customers, but in Q2 2018 some will increase to 10 Gbps. SK Telecom already has 2.5 Gbps mobile networks in South Korea already, and customers can surf the Internet at blazing speeds and stream 4K freely whenever they want.

SK Telecom is going to adopt a technology called GPON to offer mobile internet speeds of up to 10 Gbps, but in the long term they can increase to 52.5 Gbps. Although SK Telecom will also have 10 Gbps networks in South Korea in 2018, the operator emphasizes the 2.5 Gbps ones, which will have a national coverage of 80% by 2020.

"In a large number of network broadband rankings, South Korea's network speed has always been one of the best, and now South Korea's telecom operators intend to deploy 2.5Gbps networks, and even hit 10Gbps in the second half. SK said that in order to support such a high-speed network, they have adopted GPON technology. The single-line design is up to 52.5Gbps and can support 128 homes."

Considering that few countries in the world offer fixed internet subscriptions with speeds of 1 Gbps at reasonable prices, what is happening in South Korea seems completely unreal. Of course, we are still talking about a country where a lot of emphasis is placed on technological advances, so it will not be difficult to believe that 10 Gbps networks will be quickly extended over large areas.
