Huawei si Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), entered a much fiercer competition in 2018, the Chinese succeeding for the first time to surpass the Americans and occupy the second position in the top of smartphone sellers globally. Although Apple and Huawei are not exactly the companies with the closest collaboration, it seems that they still managed to achieve something unexpected together in 2018, even if the achievement is more of the Americans, and the Chinese copied it.
Huawei and Apple sold the most phones with cutouts in the screen in the first part of 2018, and this while the Asian market was filled with all kinds of clones that copy the iPhone X in every way. According to smartphone market analysts, in the first six months of 2018, 86.1 million smartphones with cutouts in the screen were sold by the first 6 major manufacturers, the company from Huawei managed to sell more units than Apple during this period.
Huawei COPIED and SURPASSED Apple and where NOBODY expected it
Huawei and Apple together accounted for more than half of all these phones, their total number representing 14.25% of all smartphone sales globally in the first 6 months of 2018. According to analysts, Huawei sold 25.4 million phones with cutout in the screen in the first 6 months of 2018, while Apple would have sold only 20.7 million units of the iPhone X, the figures being debatable and different depending on the analysts you read.
"Global shipments of notch smartphones from the top-six vendors totaled 86.1 million units in the first half of 2018, according to data from Sigmaintell Consulting. Huawei was the top vendor of notch-type smartphones with shipments totaling 25.4 million units in the first half; Apple ranked second with a shipment of 20.7 million units. Huawei also shipped about 95.36 million smartphones in the first half of 2018, trailing only Samsung to serve as the second largest vendor worldwide with a 14.9% share."
iPhone X had sales estimated between 1 and 2018 million units in Q12.7 16, depending on the analysis company, and for Q2 2018 there are no estimates yet, so it's hard to say how true the estimate is now. On the other hand, those from Huawei have many models with cutouts in the screen, so it was normal for Apple to overtake, and I find it hard to believe that they didn't do it even if the iPhone X had sales greater than 20.7 million units in Q2 2018.
