Facebook has very big problems at the moment because of the platform Facebook Messenger, the US government putting serious pressure on the company to give up a special feature that is highly appreciated by some users. More precisely, we are talking about the special function that allows the encryption of text and audio conversations through the Facebook Messenger platform, the American government wanting to have access to the conversations of members of a criminal gang known as MS-13.
Facebook knows how dangerous MS-13 is in the US and Latin America, but despite repeated requests from the US Department of Justice, the company said it cannot access the content of a user's conversations using the feature because they are encrypted. Those at Facebook say that in order to have access to the conversations, they would have to completely eliminate their encryption system, or hack the account of the criminal arrested by the FBI, and they don't really want to do that.
Facebook: BIG PROBLEMS because of Messenger
Facebook was also brought before a judge by the US government, being accused of the fact that it willfully refuses to provide access to the conversations of the person detained by the authorities, but even there the company explained that it cannot do this, because they are encrypted. Now the government is putting a lot of pressure on Facebook to either remove the encryption of text and audio conversations, or to implement a "gateway" to decrypt them when asked to do so.
"The US government is trying to force Facebook to break the encryption in its popular Messenger app so law enforcement may listen to a suspect's voice conversations in a criminal trial. The Messenger issue arose in Fresno, California, as part of an investigation of the MS-13 gang."
Facebook is in a situation similar to the one in which the Apple company was, when it said that it could not unlock an iPhone and decrypt the backup from it, because it had no way to do this, and then the federal agency hired a specialized company in computer security to hack the phone. Now Facebook will have to fight with the government to be launched in peace, but here we are talking about a special feature of Messenger, which could be withdrawn due to pressure.
