DIGI, An incredible project, and a first for Romania, is announced by the telecom operator, here is what it wants to do for customers in the country.

digi danube

DIGI. One of the largest telecommunications operators in Romania has prepared an extremely interesting project for Romania, it is currently in the approval stage to allow the start of the works. More precisely, Digi wants to run a fiber optic cable under the Danube, between the counties of Tulcea and Braila, in order to expand its existing infrastructure in the area, the length of the borehole being approximately 1000 m, according to the project.

DIGI. According to the explanations provided to justify the need for the project, the operator wants to increase the number of customers at the household level in the area where the work will be carried out, bringing broadband internet and digital television there. DIGI says that the penetration rate of broadband Internet services in rural areas remains very low for the time being, and the project aims to allow them to enter a market that no one serves properly.

DIGI. As far as I know, this is the first project that aims to cross the Danube with an underground fiber optic cable, and this reminds me of Google's great projects, and not only that, that cross the oceans with similar connections. DIGI has been collecting the necessary approvals to start its project for a year, and it still has a few to collect, and the actual execution will take a good few months, but at some point an official announcement will be made, a first for Romania.
