Telekom, SURPASSED by RCS & RDS, Loses Customers

Telekom was overtaken by RCS & RDS in 2018, and continues to lose customers in Romania, but it is preparing important changes for 2019.

Telekom

Telekom, the telecom group from Romania announced the financial results for Q4 2018 today, and concluded the financial disclosures for a fiscal year that left it behind those from RCS & RDS from the point of view of receipts. For Q4 2018, those from Telekom recorded revenues of 242,2 million euros, for a total of 933 million euros in the entire year 2018, with approximately 100 million euros less than the revenues recorded by RCS & RDS .

Telekom, had revenues 9% lower than in Q4 2017, a huge decrease, practically tens of millions of euros disappearing from the company's revenues, but even then it would not have reached the figure of 1 billion euros in 2018. It is interesting that the number of customers on fixed-mobile services of Telekom increased by 9.1%, those of IPTV by 13%, but the number of those with Internet services decreased by 3.1%, and this despite the fact that the operator attracted a large number of customers, close to that of RCS & RDS.

Telekom was overtaken in 2018 by RCS & RDS, it continues to lose customers

Telekom, for the mobile division things are even worse, reaching 4.6 million customers, 2.5% less than in Q4 2017, the exact decrease being 100.000 customers, much lower than the one recorded between Q4 2016 and Q4 2017 Telekom continues to claim that the elimination of inactive SIMs is the main reason why the number of customers continues to decrease, but it is possible that network porting also had an impact on the negative evolution for the number of customers.

Telekom, although 2018 ended on a negative note, 2019 will most likely be better, and this is because Andreas Elsner, CCO for the residential segment, came to the company and brought a "new breath" for attracting customers. To be honest, I think that Telekom will start a serious offensive in 2019, with offers comparable to those of RCS & RDS, and since it also has a somewhat better network, customers will have little reason to ignore its promotions.
