Facebook Messenger. The serious problems continue for the Facebook company, and this after it was revealed that other people could see who we were talking to other people through the messaging platform. It all started in May, when Facebook reported a problem through which hackers could see with whom we had conversations through Facebook Messenger, and which of those people are our friends on the social network, or not.
Facebook Messenger. Then the problem was solved by the American company in a fairly short period of time, but another one, also related to the messaging platform, was discovered in November. And then it was reported to the company, but only now was its existence revealed, Facebook Messenger users being able to have their private messages read by hackers without them knowing, and Facebook solved it only recently, at least theoretically.
Facebook Messenger. THE PROBLEM that OTHERS SEE WHO and WHAT you are talking to
Facebook Messenger. Both problems were related to iframes opened in third-party websites accessed by users while they are logged into their accounts on the social network. For the second problem, more serious than the first, the Facebook company needed more time to fix Facebook Messenger, and finally reached the decision to completely block iframes from the user interface, and theoretically everything been fixed, now.
Browser-based side channel attacks are still an overlooked subject. While big players like Facebook and Google are catching up, most of the industry is still unaware.
Facebook Messenger. Theoretically, everything should have been fixed already, but considering that this was also believed in May, before the second problem was discovered, it is quite clear that securing the messaging platform is impossible. Both the visualization of contacts with whom a person talks through Facebook Messenger, as well as private messages, is a very serious problem, and the disclosure on the day when Zuckerberg promises more security, is not accidental.
Facebook Messenger. it will be interesting to see how Facebook will try to provide security for the messaging platform in the context in which it has so far failed completely, and there is evidence from all sides.
