More precisely, the Japanese decided to block the 5G telecommunications equipment of Huawei and ZTE due to security issues and subordination to the Chinese government, this being the main problem for both companies.
Frequencies for 5G networks have been awarded by Japan to the country's mobile phone operators, and the exclusion of Huawei and ZTE from supplying components for them follows rumors that suggested this would happen. Last year, the Japanese government imposed a ban on local companies buying Huawei and ZTE products for use in the public administration, or government, and now it is being extended to mobile phone networks.

Japan's telcos were formally allocated 5G spectrum by regulators on Wednesday, a major milestone ahead of the launch of high-speed wireless services next spring. The three big carriers — NTT Docomo, KDDI and SoftBank — along with new entrant Rakuten, received spectrum from the telecoms ministry.
Huawei is protected in the European Union, despite what is happening in other countries, and this is because the US failed to convince officials on our continent to keep the Chinese away from their mobile phone networks. This is a problem for everyone because the lack of security in Huawei products allows the Chinese to spy on whoever they want, whenever they want, and unfortunately we also have to lose from these problems.
Huawei has always denied the problems it is accused of, but now important countries finally decide not to allow it to offer its products for their 5G networks.
