France wants to fine the company Facebook, just like many other countries want to do, but in the current case we are talking about a rather serious problem. France is determined to publish a new law by which Facebook and Google will be fined if they do not delete from their platforms the content that promotes racial hatred, and not only that.
Facebook has kind of refused to do this fast enough in the last year, so France wants to fine it if it continues in the same way. The new law that Emmanuel Macron would like to sign will oblige Facebook, Google, and other companies to delete any kind of content of this kind in just 24 hours after publication.
If Facebook, Google, etc., refuse to delete that content at the request of the authorities, they will be fined 1.25 million euros per event. The amount is the lowest for any of the companies, so they will not "cry" too much if it is imposed, so it remains to be seen what will happen to them.
"French lawmakers have approved a measure that is intended to force search engines and social networks to take hate speech off the internet. The measure adopted Thursday by the lower house of the French parliament would require social networks to remove hate speech within 24 hours of a confirmed violation. Search engines would have to stop referencing the content as well."
