Planet Jupiter. What everyone knew about this celestial body was turned upside down by the researchers who made a discovery that few people expected, but which is very important. More precisely, the researchers managed to discover new natural satellites that orbit near the planet Jupiter, which has a total of no less than 79, unlike the Earth, which has only one, the Moon.

Planet Jupiter. Some of these moons were recently discovered by researchers, and for 2 months they have been looking for the right names for them, and in the end they decided to choose them and announce them to the whole world. The researchers did not depart from Greek mythology, so for these new moons near the planet Jupiter they chose 5 names that continue the series of names that make the connection with Greek mythology, although few people probably know them.

New moons discovered near the planet Jupiter.

Planet Jupiter. Pandia (was S/2017 J4), Ersa (was S/2018 J1), Eirene (was S/2003 J5), Philophrosyne (was S/2003 J15) and Eupheme (was S/2003 J3) are the names chosen by the researchers for the 5 months. The 5 names represent the names that the 5 granddaughters of Zeus would have received, about which the world does not know much, but the planet Jupiter now has 5 more months that are named based on Greek mythology, very popular.

Planet Jupiter. You can see in the image above how all these moons are positioned in relation to the planet itself, some of them being surprisingly close, which isn't really that bad. It's quite unusual that these moons were discovered so hard, the researchers needing a lot of time to discover them close to the planet Jupiter, but in the end they did it for everyone.

Planet Jupiter. Having said that, now there are 5 new moons that have names chosen by researchers and probably others will be discovered that will have other names.
